While traveling home for the
holidays, I was thinking about how peaceful and quiet the fields were on the
surface. Yet, there is activity going on in the field that we cannot see. The Lord has designed all creation to nourish and sustain itself with the characteristics of His original seed. The leftover leaves, stalks,
and stems from the previous growing season are decaying into the soil. The
decomposition process is at work infusing the soil with the characteristics of
the past harvest (good seed) to ensure a solid foundation for new seeds.
We experience a similar process during at the end of our spiritual growing season, Spiritual nutrients (faith, righteousness, patience, etc.) begin to decompose into our inner man to build a strong foundation that will sustain us in the future (I Peter 5:6-11). Peter explained this concept in his first epistle:
1 Peter 5:10 NKJV
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle [you].
Before the next spiritual planting season, we will once again become fertile ground for the Lord to plant new seeds (others) into the spiritual soil around us. We will once again produce a good crop because of what He has deposited in us.
Jesus knew that encapsulating our sins
in His divine body, dying on the cross, and being buried in the earth would plant an uncontaminated
seed in the spiritual field of the earth. He knew that after the resurrection many good
crops (you and me) would grow in the Spirit, produce a good harvest, experience
a dying to self for His purposes, and return His nutrients back into spiritual
earth to replenish others and ourselves. Thus, we continue the process He started by
laying a foundation for the Gospel for generations to come.
How
awesome is the wisdom of our God. Glory to Him forever!
As this winter season ends, I hope
you had the opportunity to see a field(s) at rest. Brother and sisters continue to rest in the Lord. Let us be confident and peaceful as we grow spiritually during the seasons of life. We have the assurance of His divine wisdom and power, which exceeds anything we may face in the future. His is our blessed hope.
Now, it is time to grow again!
