Living Water

 John 4:7, 9-11, 13-15, 25-26

(Emphasis added)

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink."

Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?

Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, "but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw."

The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am [He]."

A fountain is a source from which something proceeds or is supplied. It is a spring of water issuing from the earth or a reservoir containing a liquid that can be drawn off as needed.

Let us not forget that a beautiful fountain of living water is in us, a spring of spiritual substance that gives us eternal life. Jesus is the giver of the living water. He provides a supply that is more than an occasional shower. He gives us so much that it is a fountain within us, a real gusher. Jesus, through Holy Spirit, is our continual source of spiritual livelihood. His living water is the source of the spiritual nourishment that is required to sustain us after our salvation experience

The fountain of living water is available for everyone. When anyone accepts who Jesus is to the world, He imparts spiritual living water that starts the process of building a fountain through Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is the essence of the living water that seals us to eternal life (Ephesian 4:30).

All inhabitants of the earth must have water to survive. Likewise, all who come to Jesus and the Kingdom of God are sustained by spiritual living water. We can engage in good spiritual habits (i.e., daily meditation, prayer, and fellowship). Yet, we can still feel dry inside. Therefore, a check for any blockages to the flow of living water is necessary. The blockage may be unforgiveness, bitterness, or disobedience. It is anything that leads to a hardened of the heart. The Lord is always available to replenish your fountain of living water.

What a wonderful image of what is inside of us! A fountain washes away our anxiety, condemnation, depression, anger, and fears. It uplifts our spirit in love to joy, peace, strength, and eternal life.

Living water has the same effect as natural water. It feels refreshing to the spirit like natural water does to the body. It is a beautiful sensation to feel that refreshing and cleansing of the soul and spirit. When we become refreshed, we can help others.

We have the fountain of living water inside us because Jesus took away our sins. So let us be thankful for the fountain of living water that abides in us forever.
