Our God never leaves us or forsakes us.
Recently, my thoughts drifted on how fleeting things are in life. We
woke up one morning in 2020 to a pandemic that caused the world to live a
different lifestyle. It was a reminder that everything in this life is subject
to change drastically. I shared my thoughts with a friend who was experiencing
the same thing. Her description was
“being in a season where the promises seem so sweet, but it feels fleeting and
hard to stay connected.”
How often have I spoken that God never changes? Those words have been
prayed, preached, and sang for centuries. Yet, sometimes the enemy will hint at
doubting this truth, especially when the media is heralding a return to normalcy
when things are still abnormal. Then, faithful Holy Spirit, in His gentle
voice, spoke the word, EVERLASTING.
Of course, the first thing to do is find out the meaning of the word
and understand it for this season in time. So, I will share the definition that
touched my heart the most—tediously persistence.
Tedious mean tiresome, slow, weary, boring, tiring because of the
length of time, or dull. That definition is not encouraging. However, when
combined with persistence, it is a living gauge. It shows how the Lord has been
faithful since the beginning of time, despite the waywardness of mankind.
To persist in something means to exist for a long or longer than usual time
or continuously, pertinacious, tenacious, or continuing despite interference or
treatment. (You should research the other definitions and let the Lord speak to
your heart.)
The Lord pursues us until we become weary and submit to His will. He
gets weary when we persist in our waywardness, yet He still pursues us. The Lord
is patient and tenacious (clingy) toward us in love and the purpose and plan
for our lives. He does not pursue us because it is convenient or profitable.
The study revealed that I subconsciously felt the Lord would quit being
my Rock and my Salvation because I am not perfect. The old attack from the
enemy of doubt followed by perfectionism was working against me again. As a
result, I felt “fleeting and disconnected” despite what I believe and know
about Him.
Everlasting is something that started before time and has continued
without time. Lasting means existing or continuing a long while or enduring.
Psalms 90:2b: “From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
The psalmist could only describe God as starting from everlasting to ending in everlasting. What a powerful thought of who we are to Him as well. He loves us from a position of never quitting. Think about all the Lord has endured for eons of civilizations (e.g., Israel). It shows we serve a God that does not abandon us. He does not quit, never, forever.
His love does not quit!
His mercy does not
quit!
His grace does not
quit!
His kindness does
not quit!
The cleansing blood
through Jesus does not quit!
We know our world is transiting into a new millennium of economic,
cultural, ecological, and social unrest never experienced in our lifetime. Therefore, we must grab hold of Isaiah 26:4,
40:28.
“Have you not heard? The Lord is an everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth! He does not faint or grow weary: His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might He increases strength.”
Our hope, our joy, and all His promises last and work on our behalf continually
forever. He is our Most Holy Everlasting God.
